The Different Types Of Headaches That Can Be Associated With Covid

One of the symptoms that characterize the new variant of the coronavirus called Omicron is that it causes a fairly severe headache, as well as fatigue and tiredness.

Headaches, in fact, are a symptom of covid-19 that occurs in many cases, to a greater or lesser extent.

Quirónsalud specialists explain that there are different types of headaches associated with coronavirus, with different causes and effects. Here we tell you which are the main ones.

The Coronavirus Headache

While the symptoms of covid range from trouble breathing, fever, cough, and loss of smell, a headache can also be one of the possible effects of SARS-CoV-2 on the nervous system.

In fact, as we have seen, it is one of the main symptoms of the new Omicron variant.

As Dr. Joan Izquierdo Casas, head of Neurology at the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya, explains in a statement, “as the months go by and the experience of this disease increases, a series of symptoms appear, including headaches.

Persistent with instability, tingling, insomnia and difficulty concentrating with memory disturbances”.

Migraine

Likewise, the coronavirus can also worsen the migraine situation in people who suffer them regularly, or even increase its intensity.

The migraine affects between 10 and 15% of the population, affecting more generally to women.

Its cause is unknown and it is believed to have a genetic origin. In many cases it is considered a chronic condition for which there is no treatment.

Migraine causes severe pain in the head, usually lateral, that can last for hours or even days.

The pain increases when we move our head, in addition to causing nausea, vomiting and intolerance to light and noise.

The Effect Of Masks

The headache can be caused by the virus, although it can also occur as a consequence of other aspects related to the pandemic.

One of them is the continued use of a mask or other equipment in the skull area, the use of which is essential to prevent infections.

Wearing it for many hours, especially if it is very attached to the head, can cause headaches.

Stress Headaches

In addition, the very stressful situation that causes the pandemic, the uncertainty, the containment measures and the fear of getting sick influence our body and can also manifest themselves in the form of headaches. To see more post on physical & mental health click here.
